Locals taking action

Chantelle Deacon

A group of concerned citizens in Vernon visited the office of Mel Arnold the MP for North Okanagan - Shuswap on Wednesday.

The group of North Okanagan residents hand-delivered a summary of the most recent IPCC report stating, "Global Warming of 1.5 C an IPCC special report on the impacts of global warming of 1.5 C above pre-industrial levels and related global greenhouse gas emission pathways, in the context of strengthening the global response to the threat of climate change, sustainable development, and efforts to eradicate poverty."

"We felt it was really important to address the recent IPCC report which has called for urgent action," said Annelise Grube-Cavers, concerned citizen. "The situation around climate change is more direr than most people had thought up until now and we really have a small margin of time with which we can turn things around and change the state of the world, the state of the climate, for future generations."

The group of advocates hope that Arnold will use his voice to help reverse climate change.

"I'm hoping that by doing this, one MP will start representing the best interest of the citizens, which means looking to the future and what needs to be done to ensure that it's a healthy future."

This action is happening across the country at MPs’ offices and has been organized by 350.org.

In the past, Mel Arnold has been known to say publicly he's not certain human activity is the main cause of climate change on earth.

But he doesn't dispute that human activity is having an impact.

Today's action by concerned citizens is happening across the country at MPs’ offices and has been organized by 350.org.
