Buy your gear, prepare to ski

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas at SilverStar Mountain Resort.

The Thanksgiving weekend is already over and that means back to work for most, and for some, that means back to work where there is fresh powder.

SilverStar's meteorologist and public relations person, Wesla Wong,  took some photos of the snowcovered mountain this morning after arriving to work at 7:30 a.m.

"It's looking like a Winter Wonderland out there," said Wong. "The photos are of the Powder Gulch Chairlift and the Alpine Meadows."

If you are a skier or a boarder now is a good time to start thinking about buying some new equipment to help you look like a pro on the slopes.

Vernon's annual Ski Swap is coming up this Saturday. Now is your chance to sell your old equipment or pick up some new gear at the annual event.

"This is the 49th annual Ski Swap," said Ross Blankley, organizer, Vernon Ski Swap. "This year there will even be 18 retail businesses from up and down the Valley."

"We are expecting the Ski Swap to be absolutely jam-packed with inventory."

As far as Blankley knows the Veron Ski Swap is the biggest swap in the Valley for ski gear.

There will be clothes, goggles. helmets, Nordic gear, snowshoes, poles and of course skis and boards for sale at the event.

If you are interested in selling some of your old gear at the swap make sure to drop it off at the Vernon Rec Centre this Friday between 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The Ski Swap will start at 8:30 a.m. sharp on Oct. 13 and ends at 3 p.m.

There is a $2 consignment ticket that must be purchased for each item that you are selling.

This is the single biggest fundraiser of the year for the Vernon Ski Club.
