Back in the swing of things

He is one of the greatest golfers to ever swing a club, and on Friday PGA Masters winner Mike Weir was in the North Okanagan where he met some special golfers.

Weir was at Predator Ridge where he took some time to try out a specialized wheelchair that allowed paraplegics to get swinging.

Weir also took some time to chat with the paraplegic golfers on hand.

“This is great to meet this group here that show me how to enjoy the game in a different way and if you have a disability you can still play the game,” said Weir.

Debbie Waitkus, of Stand Up and Play BC, brought two para-golfer chairs to Predator Ridge where half a dozen wheelchair golfers were waiting.

Each chair costs $30,000, but after some fundraising and donations, Waitkus purchased two chairs that used at various Okanagan golf courses.

“We get together every week and anyone can come out and try the chair,” said Waitkus, adding people can contact her through the Stand Up and Play Facebook page.
