Probation for assaulting cop

A man who assaulted a member of the Vernon RCMP will not serve anymore jail time.

Ryan Perreault was sentenced to time served and placed on two years probation for the 2017 incident.

Staff Sgt. Annie Linteau said on Nov. 20 shortly after 2 p.m., Vernon RCMP responded to a male causing a disturbance at Polson Park near Highway 6 and 25th Avenue.

“Officers arrived on scene to find the male acting erratically by yelling, dancing around and hitting walls of the Lawn Bowling Club. Officers attempted to make contact with the male, however prior to, the male fled on foot,” she said.

Patrols were conducted and the man was later located on Highway 6 near Polson Place mall. The male was known to police to be on court conditions and was placed under arrest for being in breach of those conditions.

“Upon taking the male into custody, the male allegedly assaulted a police officer, causing the officer to sustain minor injuries. The officer received immediate medical treatment for the injuries sustained,” said Linteau.

Perreault has been charged with assault of a police officer causing bodily harm, assault with intent to resist arrest, fail to comply with a recognizance and causing a disturbance in a public place.
