Firman to challenge Garlick

UPDATE 4:17 p.m.

There will be a mayoral race in Coldstream after all.

Bill Firman will be challenging three-term mayor Jim Garlick for the top spot.

There will also be seven candidates vying for six council seats in Coldstream.

It could be the easiest campaigns of their political careers.

If no one steps up to challenge them, the mayors of Armstrong, Lumby and Coldstream will win another term in office.

As of 1 p.m. Friday, Chris Pieper is the only mayoral candidate for Armstrong, Jim Garlick is the only one seeking the top job in Coldstream and Kevin Acton is the lone mayor hopeful for Lumby.

All three mayors have held the gavel for multiple terms.

The deadline to file for candidacy is 4 p.m. today.

The biggest race in the North Okanagan will be for Vernon City Council with 15 people battling it out for only six seats.

Of the Vernon council candidates only returning councillors Scott Anderson and Brian Quiring have officially filed their papers to take another run at office.

Juliette Cunningham and Catherine Lord are both bowing out of local politics. The third vacant seat on Vernon City Council belonged to Bob Spiers who tragically passed away.
