Tucker running for council

A longtime Vernon resident has announced her intention to run for city council.

Dawn Tucker made her intentions known to media through a press release Wednesday morning.

"I am pleased to announce my candidacy for the position of councillor in the City of Vernon," Tucker wrote. "It’s my belief that a position on council is one of service and one where we need to be willing to put our best effort toward the well being of the community that we all share."

Tucker is an employee of School District 22 and holds both a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education degree.

Tucker believes that if elected her life experiences, from taking care of her grandparents to volunteering in the community to her work with the community's LGBTQIA+ youth both at the school and community level,   will aid her in a role as a councillor.

"My goals are to represent the concerns of the residents of Vernon from all walks of life, to have clear communication between city council and residents, to ensure fiscal responsibility is followed and to build bridges with our local social service agencies, the provincial and federal levels of government in order to obtain common goals to better our city as a whole."

Tucker is the latest candidate to enter the race for city council.

According to the City of Vernon, including Tucker, 12 candidates have registered their paperwork for the October 20 municipal election.
