Mother Nature fighting fires

The weather has cooled and there was even some rain, but that does not mean fires in the area are out. They are, however, getting smaller.

The Mabel Creek fire in the North Okanagan is still classified as out of control and fire activity has slowed greatly over the past couple of weeks.

The fire is 6.5 kilometres east of Mabel Lake and is 1,370 hectares in size.

BC Wildfire Service Fire Information Officer Brenna Ward said Mother Nature is lending a helping hand with a lot of precipitation.

Ward said the fire is in a very remote location that is “too dangerous to send grounds crews into,” so it's being monitored with a remote camera.

While smoke from the fire is visible from the Mabel Lake area, Ward said fire activity has decreased over the past few weeks and the diminishing blaze is not of great concern.

There were several fires burning in the Monashee Complex area from Lumby to Three Valley Gap, but rains have put the damper on them as well.

The remaining fires are in remote areas and they are all on the delcine.
