Mayors seek another term

Jim Garlick, Kevin Acton and Chris Pieper have all announced they are seeking re-election as mayors of their respective communities.

Garlick is seeking another term leading Coldstream, while Acton is going for a fourth term as mayor of Lumby and Pieper is hoping to sit in the Armstrong mayor's chair for another four years.

“I love this little town and I think we have accomplished a lot of things, but there are some big issues that need some follow through,” said Acton. “I'm hoping to get back in to continue on with some of the other awesome projects we've got going.”

Acton credits the councils he has worked with for getting so much accomplished.

In Armstrong, Pieper admits he debated for a while if he wanted to dedicate another four years to the mayor's chair.

“I've lived here all my life, and I enjoy community work,” said Pieper who was first elected in 2008. “The position of mayor I have enjoyed the last 10 years, at least 90 per cent of the time, so I thought, 'Well, I might as well try it again.'”

Pieper said working with “such good councils” helped him make up his mind to run again.

Garlick said there are many things happening in Coldstream and he wants to be around to see them through.

Garlick, who served three years on council, is seeking this fourth term as mayor.

“I get satisfaction out of it. I'd never say it's fun, but I think there is satisfaction working for your community and seeing plans go forward,” said Garlick.

Vernon Mayor Akbal Mund is not seeking another term as mayor, but he is running for a spot on council.
