BX fire update

A steady column of white smoke is visible from a wildfire burning in the BX hills.

The fire was sparked Tuesday night during an unexpected lightning storm.

While the fire is not threatening any structures at this time, it is a priority for fire crews.

The wildfire is located just past the end of Hartnell Road.

"The terrain is treacherous," explains BX Swan Lake fire chief Bill Wacey. "It has an extremely high angle on it. It is very difficult to access."

Due to the fire's location and steep terrain, the BC Wildfire Service has requested a rappel team be sent in.

Wacey says air support has also been requested, but that request is in the queue.

"They have got a whole lot of requests for air tankers or bucket ships."
