Big race at the Star

The biggest downhill race of the year takes place at SilverStar Mountain Resort this weekend.

Canada Cup races will be held Saturday and Sunday and will feature some of the best riders in the land.

Cam Sorenson, SilverStar bike park manager, said new lines have been opened up for the race.

“We are building a full dual slalom. There's going to be a combination of different groups, winner takes all,” said Sorenson.

The Canada Cup series is designed to provide competitive opportunities to the next generation of downhill cyclists, transitioning from provincial race series to international competitions.

Hosted in partnership between Cycling Canada, its provincial sport organizations and local organizing committee, the Canada Cup Cycling Series is sanctioned by the International Cycling Union.

Registration for the event is $70 for elite athletes and $50 for everyone else.
