Revved up for hot rods

Cars from every era will make their way to the streets of Vernon next weekend.

The annual ‘Sun Valley Cruise-In’ on July 21 and 22 features over 400 classic cars, hot rods, customs, old trucks and sports cars.

To kick off the weekend the Vernon Towne Cinema will play the all-time classic car movie American Graffiti, starting at 7 p.m on July 20.

On Saturday, July 21 anyone with a classic or sports car is invited to Watkin Motors, where a scenic back-country cruise will depart at 2 p.m.

"The end destination is the open car show held on 30th Avenue downtown," said Andrew Freeland, manager of Sun Valley Cruise-In. "This car show is free for all car participants."

The event will run from 4 to 9 p.m. and will feature live music downtown.

On Sunday, the car show moves to Polson Park where the registered classic and collector vehicles get to park on the grass.

The show is free and open to the public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The 10-piece band “The Legendary Lake Monsters” will be performing at the band shell, with a fun “pin-up” contest being held at noon.

Food vendors, face painting and vehicle draws round off the fun family event.

Please be advised the 2900 to 3400 blocks of 30th Avenue will be closed from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. on July 21.
