Hits cop car and escapes

An RCMP vehicle was rammed by a man escaping police in Vernon early Sunday morning.

The suspect has yet to be found.

Just before 2 a.m., police arrived on scene after reports of a distraught male causing problems outside a house in the Willow Shore Crescent area, near Head of the Lake Road.

A man was heard yelling and screaming while banging on the door of a home.

Before police arrived the man escaped in a small vehicle, but he was located quickly by RCMP.

Officers attempted to stop with the suspect vehicle, but the man drove toward the police vehicle, colliding with the driver’s side front end causing serious damage.

"After colliding with the police vehicle, the suspect vehicle took off at high rates of speed back down Head of the Lake Road," says Const. Kelly Brett. "There is no such thing as a routine traffic stop and each stop is considered high risk. This officer is fortunate he was not injured during this incident."

Patrols were made for the vehicle and suspect driver, but they have yet to be located.

The getaway vehicle is described as a small grey four-door vehicle.

The incident remains under investigation at this time.

If you witnessed this incident and have not yet spoken to police you are asked to contact the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP at 250-546-3028.
