Rising through the ranks

A Vernon cadet is rising up through the ranks.

Cadet Warrant Officer Second Class Riley McLaughlin of 223 Red Lion Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron, located in Vernon, is now the C Squadron Warrant Officer at Albert Head Cadet Training Centre in Victoria.

He's now in charge of 19 staff cadets and 140 course cadets receiving advanced training.

He'll is responsible for the overall leadership, supervision, and mentorship of the 19 staff cadets and 140 course cadets receiving advanced training in C Squadron at Albert Head this summer.

This is McLaughlin’s second summer as a staff cadet at the training centre, having worked as a Sergeant with the Fitness and Sports Instructor course last summer, where he was responsible for the direct leadership and supervision 27 course cadets, and he is ready for the new challenges and opportunities which this summer will offer him.

“The Cadet Program has given me so many excellent opportunities to grow as leader and I appreciate that cadets can become leaders amongst their peers in the cadet program,” said McLaughlin.
More than 900 Sea, Army and Air Cadets are participating in summer training activities at Albert Head this summer. Other cadets have had the opportunity to travel across the country and even overseas.

Meanwhile, courses are now underway at the Vernon Cadet Training Centre.
