Cup champ chills out

A little more than a month ago, Barry Trotz was hoisting the Stanley Cup.

The 55-year old coach of the Stanley cup champion Washington Capitals resigned 10 days later.

Now, he's grocery shopping in Vernon.

Trotz appeared relaxed as he grocery shopped at Vernon's Real Canadian Superstore over the weekend.

The champion coach maintains a summer residence in the Okanagan, as do many NHL players and executives.

Winning the cup triggered a two-year contract extension for Trotz, but he couldn't come to terms on salary and was reportedly seeking a five-year contract.

Washington won the Presidents' Trophy in 2015-16 and 2016-17 before winning the Stanley Cup this season.

After being eliminated by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Eastern Conference second round in 2016 and 2017, the Capitals opted not to sign Trotz to a contract extension last year.
