Kal Lake Rd. reopened

Josh Winquist

It is welcome news to commuters and business owners along one of the North Okanagan's busiest corridors: Kalamalka Lake Road within the City of Vernon has re-opened to two-way traffic.

The work has wrapped up two-weeks ahead of schedule.

Businesses along Kalamalka Lake Road up to the Vernon border will be fully accessible from Vernon. Construction on Kalamalka Road in Coldstream is ongoing.

However, the construction on the Coldstream side will pause for the long weekend. The road will be open to two-lane, two-way traffic during that time.

"Most of the utility work has been completed the remaining work is concrete curbing and some paving, in which, there will be some alternating single-lane traffic during that time," stated Michael Baker, District of Coldstream director of infrastructure services.

Work on the $3-million project was suspended in 2017, due to wildfires in the Cariboo. The fires forced BC Hydro to reallocate its crews and resources.

Work resumed again on March 26, 2018.
