Let in the Sunshine

Let the sun shine, and the festivities begin.

According to Environment Canada, the weather is supposed to be warm and sunny Saturday, perfect for the 24th annual Downtown Vernon Association Sunshine Festival.

Starting at 9 a.m. the festival takes over main street with numerous activities, food and live entertainment all day.

Dudley Coulter, with the DVA, said the popular event draws upwards of 15,000 people.

Coulter said all of the old favourites are back this year - such as the dunk tank, face painting, two bouncy castles, rock climbing and more.

“New for this year we have a 50-foot inflatable obstacle course,” said Coulter, adding it is for all ages. “Adults can do it too.”

Also new this year, the Kalavida Stage will have a multicultural focus featuring First Nations dancers, Japanese dancers, a Brazilian band and more.

Along with the slate of downtown restaurants, there will also be 20 food trucks on hand.

Shopaholics can get their fix from 150 vendors offering Sunshine Festival specials.

Coulter said the event is designed to kick off the summer season in the downtown core.
