Venture truck stolen

A Vernon non-profit is reeling from the theft of one of its vehicles.

Sometime overnight, someone stole a 2001 white Dodge diesel flatdeck truck from Venture Training on Old Kamloops Road.

The B.C. license plate on the truck is DX 1139.

Ryan Cucheron, Venture director of operations, said someone also damaged two other vehicles while attempting to steal them, but both vehicles are still usable.

As for the Dodge, Cucheron said losing the vehicle will impact the daily operations of Venture Training which has more than 240 participants including 100 in the work program.

Cucheron said the truck was used to pickup glass and cans from the brewery as well as for delivering lumber to clients.

Venture does have a second truck, but Cucheron sometimes both trucks are needed.

Losing the truck will also cost the non-profit agency and that could impact programs.

“It's definitely going to affect our operations,” he said. “And that directly affects all the participants.”

To steal the truck, the thieves cut the gate open so Cucheron said they will have to look at increased security, which will also cost the agency more money.

Vernon and District Association for Community Living (VDACL), otherwise known as Venture Training, has been supporting adults with developmental disabilities with social, educational and vocational skill building since 1955.

Anyone seeing the truck or with information on the theft is urged to contact RCMP.
