Mountie won't face charges

An RCMP officer will not face charges for his part in a non-fatal, 2015 police-involved shooting near Salmon Arm.

The BC Prosecution Service stated: "After reviewing the entirety of the evidence provided, the BCPS concluded that the charge assessment standard for initiating a prosecution has not been met."

The BCPS stated it will provide more clarification on its decision following the conclusion of related legal proceedings involving the suspect.

The suspect is still facing charges which are before the court.

On July 3, 2015 police were called to an armed robbery at a gas station near Sicamous.

During the arrest police, two police officers shot at the suspect in separate encounters. The suspect was seriously injured in the second encounter.

He was taken to hospital for medical treatment and subsequently recovered.

The incident was investigated by the Independent Investigations Office. The IIO investigation considered that the RCMP officers may have committed criminal offences and on that basis, submitted a report to Crown Counsel for review by the BCPS.
