Shooting in Vernon

A 21-year-old man was shot in Vernon early Tuesday morning.

The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP responded to a call of a shooting at about 2 a.m.

The man was found shot and wounded in the 3900 Block of 33 Street.

"The investigation is in its early stages," said Const. Kelly Brett. "However, preliminary information suggests that this was not a random act."

"Police do not believe that public safety is at risk."

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP’s General Investigative Section is now investigating the incident.

The victim was transported by ambulance to hospital but didn't suffer any life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is on-going and no further information is being released at this time, according to RCMP.

Police ask the public who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the area of the 3900 Block of 33 Street to call Vernon RCMP GIS at 250-545-7171.

The public can also remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or by leaving a tip online.

A post on the Vernon Rant and Rave Facebook page Tuesday has caused a stir on social media.

The post claimed there was an alleged shooting near 32nd Street and 39th Avenue about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Castanet has contacted Vernon RCMP for more information.

Details regarding the alleged incident will be released this afternoon, according to Const. Kelly Brett.

Castanet will update the public as soon as that information becomes available.
