Lake water supply cut off

Turbidity in Kalamalka Lake forced crews to turn off water sourcing from the lake on Saturday.

The Regional District of North Okanagan said customers in Greater Vernon will have water supplied from the Duteau Lake Creek Water Treatment Plant until further notice.

Customers who don't normally get water from the Duteau Lake plant will "notice that the water is much softer and the water has a low alkalinity and pH," the RDNO said.

"This may be of interest to those customers who have in-home water treatment systems or aquariums."

The turbidity in Kalamalka Lake is due to spring runoff from snow melting in the Coldstream Creek watershed.

The RDNO said they will continue to monitor water quality and let customers know when the situation changes.
