Employees wanted

Chantelle Deacon

Maybe Vernonites are are still in hibernation mode after a slow start to spring, but whatever the case might be local businesses are on the hunt for great employees.

Two massive local companies on completely different ends of the spectrum continue to search for more employees.

"Not enough people in the Okanagan, right?" said Phil Corman, Labour Unlimited Okanagan, branch manager. "I've got even big companies that are coming to me looking for a lot of workers, general labourers to carpenters, OFA."

"We're even looking for housekeepers everything, I mean everything."

Corman says he can almost guarantee work, adding he has got about 100 people full-time jobs this year.

Predator Ridge Resort is another local company hoping to employ many more workers as soon as possible.

"We're trying to attract as many staff as we possibly can every single year," said Cameron Craig, director of golf and memberships at Predator Ridge. "It's always a little bit challenging to find staff who can commit to seasonal employment."

Predator Ridge is a great company to grow with, says Craig.

"When I look at most of our supervisors and managers within this company they all started off as seasonal staff."

There are still a variety of positions available.

"We see university students who are going to school and working towards business degrees or whatever it may be," said Rebecca Ogden, banquet manager, Predator Ridge. "[They are] entering a role as a range server where they might just be looking to pick up some extra money [without] realizing that they are getting their foot in the door."

"Should a position become open in marketing we can help them along their career paths."

Many talented young chefs work at the Range Lounge & Grill at Predator Ridge, and it was where they began their careers in the culinary arts.

If anyone community members are interested in a career at Predator Ridge or working through Labour Unlimited Okanagan visit their websites or apply in person with a resume.
