A new ATV for Vernon

Out with the old and in with the new.

Vernon city council is looking at purchasing a new ATV to replace the electric golf cart used at Polson Park.

"Originally it was planned to be strictly used for Polson Park and that's why we were considering a strictly electric vehicle," said James Rice, manager public works, parks and airport. "But with a little further research, we thought there was an opportunity to extend the range of this vehicle into winter months as well and start clearing snow with it."

The cost for a new Bobcat 3600 is roughly $25,000, and $10,000 could be funded from the 2016 prior year unexpended and uncommitted balance.

"We are leading towards gas over electric although we can still do some additional research on electric vehicles," Rice said.

Council agreed to continue with the purchase of a new ATV and snowblade that could be used for maintenance in the winter and summer months.
