To Mexico with love

It doesn't get much sweeter than this.

The Valentines for Mexico fundraiser hosted by Sweet Smiles Society and Cotton's Chocolates was another savoury success, raising $41,589 to help orphans in Mexico.

"So many blessings," said Barrita Durward, the driving force behind the popular event.

The ninth annual fundraiser is one of the most anticipated events of the year and was once again sold out.

The money raised will go to the City of Angels orphanage in Cozumel.

This year, they hope to build a childhood development centre.

Durward has been helping build homes in rural Mexico for almost a decade.

Durward said the response from Vernon residents will change the lives of entire families in Mexico.

“I'm humbled by the gifts that this community has given to Sweet Smiles and the children and the families,” she said. “They are changing the course of history for so many families and so many children.”

Durward said the homes that will be built with the money raised in Vernon will provide children with safety and security.
