Bye horse and buggy bylaw

The City of Vernon is updating some of its traffic bylaws to get rid of horse-and-carriage references and include new-fangled types of transportation -- such as skateboards and mobility scooters.

Mayor Akbal Mund says the update uncovered and removed numerous references to the pre-car era.

He says the north Okanagan city will now create an education campaign to bring everyone up to speed on the new rules.

For instance, skateboarders are allowed on roads, sidewalks and cycle paths, but will be required to wear a helmet, and will have to show consideration for pedestrians.
