Concerns over puppies

When a North Okanagan woman went to look at a Labrador puppy she was thinking of buying, she felt something wasn't right.

The woman, who asked her names not be used, found the puppies for sale on Kijiji and met with the seller, who is from Saskatchewan but was travelling through the Okanagan.

“We were expecting to find some happy, good puppies, but the situation appeared not good at all,” said the woman who met with the sellers earlier this week.

When she approached the truck the puppies were in, she also saw at least five adult dogs.

"I looked and saw many dogs and I was expecting only a couple especially if they were driving from Saskatchewan,” she said, adding the dogs started to growl as she approached the vehicle, which made her feel uneasy.

“When I looked down at the puppy, the puppy was very lethargic and had its head held down and it wasn't looking up and most puppies are pretty curious and sniffing around and wondering what's happening and these puppies weren't,” she said. “And when I picked the puppy up, it was very droopy and shaking and it's feet were covered in poop.”

The woman felt the situation was not right so she began to question the sellers about the adult dogs and puppies and felt they were giving evasive answers, which added to her concerns.

“They didn't want to answer the questions I was asking and I got this bad feeling. It just didn't feel right,” she said.

The couple had numerous puppies to choose from.

“I couldn't take one because I could not support buying a puppy that came from what I did not feel was a good environment.”

The woman posted her concerns on social media and received numerous responses from people who are also concerned and want to help.

Castanet left a message at a number on the Kijiji ad, but have yet to hear back from the sellers.
