Fire displaces family of 6

An Armstrong family of six escaped a house fire unharmed late Friday night.

But Armstrong/Spallumcheen Fire Chief Ian Cummings said there was significant fire, smoke and water damage to the single-family home.

“We were called out to Highland Park just after 11 p.m.,” said Cummings of the house fire that was fully involved when crews arrived. “The back of the structure, the deck was fully involved. We had fire coming out the living room window.”

Cummings said the fire was a challenge to knock down and crews spent five hours on scene.

“It was problematic. We had snow banks to deal with and it was on a steep hill so it was difficult for our apparatus. The guys did a fantastic job,” he said.

“When the fire started there were two adults, four young children and some pets in the house, but everyone got out safely.”

An initial investigation conducted early Saturday morning did not determine a cause, but Cummings said crews will return later today to try and figure out how the fire started.

A Gofundme page has been started to help the Munro family.

"Jordan, Sarah and the kids lost everything tonight in a house fire. Thankfully everyone got out safely but they were unable to grab anything at all. They do have insurance but any additional financial help would be much appreciated as well as they start from scratch. Thank you for your support and prayers," said a statement on the page.
