Foster happy with Wilkinson

While he was disappointed when Christy Clark announced she was retiring from politics, Vernon-Monashee MLA Eric Foster is thrilled with the new leader of the provincial Liberals.

Andrew Wilkinson was handed the keys to the kingdom by party faithful earlier this month, and Foster fully supports the new Liberal leader.

“I'm really pleased. Andrew is going to do a tremendous job for us,” said Foster as the party gets ready for a pivotal byelection in West Kelowna.

Foster said Wilkinson has the political experience to lead the Liberals into the next election.

“He's been around long enough he knows the issues; he was a deputy minister at one time, he was party president at one time. He did an outstanding job as the minister of education. He's got all the tools and I don't think (NDP Premier) John Horgan is thrilled about this. I think he would have hoped for somebody else, anybody else,” said Foster from his Vernon office.

Wilkinson squeaked out a win over Dianne Watts on the fifth and final ballot, taking 53 per cent of the vote.

Wilkinson is the MLA for the Vancouver-Quilchena riding, and was first elected to the legislature in 2013.
