Road work explained

Yellow tape and orange road markers do not exactly provide the most inviting picture for visitors to the downtown core, but the roadwork on 30th Street in Vernon is not yet complete.

The city began work on a bike path, but faced delays and was forced to put the project on hold while the bad weather rolled in.

"There is a construction time period in where we can physically work where the ground is not frozen or suffering from spring conditions," explains Amanda Watson manager transportation from the city of Vernon.

As soon as the conditions improve in the spring, work will once again begin.

"The section from 32 Ave. to 34 Ave. and then from 34 Ave. to 37 Ave. is expected to wrap this year."

Plenty of people have complained about the markers and tape up in front of the government services building.

"We just wanted to make sure people didn't trip hazard, says Watson. "The worst thing that can happen with snow is stepping on uneven ground, you can't see it. So we wanted to tape it off so people didn't have any problems walking on uneven ground."
