Communication is key

Communication is the key to any good relationship and Martiza Reilly is working to keep the bonds between School District 22 and the community as tight as possible.

The district's new communications coordinator has only been on the job for a little more than two months, but she is already creating headlines.

Reilly says the school district's goal is to engage and inform a community on what is going on, and there are a lot of great things happening within the school district, whether that is on what the students are doing or programs are being offered.

"This is a very important time for children, whether they are in Kindergarten or Grade 12 there are a lot of things going on, and we believe that open communication and ensuring that everyone is aware of what is going on is important."

Reilly recently reached out the media in the North Okanagan and provided a list of what each school is working on.

For example, the Seaton Choir will be having a concert on February 5 and 6 at 7 p.m. The public are encouraged to attend and hear the great sounds from the choir.

She also shared, Charles Bloom Secondary will be hosting the WorkBC Find Your Fit tour on February 8. This is an interactive event where youth (Grade 5 and up) can try the skills they'll need for different careers in demand in our region and across the province.

It is the type of communication most parents are looking for.

"We launched our strategic plan last year and one of our goals is to enhance communication and engagement in all members of the learning community."

Reilly, originally from Vernon, moved back from Calgary to raise her family. Her daughter is in Grade 1 and is really excited to be back home.

Reilly is hoping to connect with the community and strengthen relationships through social media.

"I really do encourage people to check out our social media channels, like the School District 22 Facebook and Twitter pages where she plans on sharing not only information but personal stories from her point of view on what is happening in the district.
