Ultra athlete shines

Chantelle Deacon

"All you have is today, what's stopping you?"

If you're from Vernon, chances are you know Shanda Hill.

She is one gutsy athlete, who is currently training for an ultramarathon, equivalent to 25 Iron Man races.

Hill recently released a video where she chips a logo into into a frozen lake, and jumps into the freezing water.

"That night I got into bed and I woke and thought I'm going to go chip this into the ice because I had been in the ice for recovery almost every day."

The Vernon athlete believes that everyone has the potential to conquer their goals.

"When you do something, do it and do it now," she said. "I say that so much because what happened after all of this was the day after, wind came in and the ice started to melt.

"We would not have been able to do what we did and have everything come together had I not woken up that morning and said 'This is what I'm going to do, just do it now'."

"To me, the whole video came together because if you wait or put things off they don't happen. For me to have girls message or call me and say 'Hey I'm doing this because I saw you doing that,' that to me is the best part about being an athlete and secondly, I would like to create funding as an athlete to be able to keep doing what I'm doing."

Hill loves pushing her body to the absolute limit, while living by the slogan, 'It's better to wear out than rust out.'
