Vernon

Looking for you!

They are often the volunteers behind the most popular events around town.

One the oldest RCMP volunteer programs in the province is looking for recruits.

City of Vernon crime prevention co-ordinator Regan Borisenko says the program has been around for more than 27 years.

"It helps provide eyes and ears for the RCMP. It provides that presence and makes people feel safer."

A small army of volunteers is set to keep a watchful eye on the Winter Carnival parade this Saturday.

"That has been done for the last 20 years."

The City of Vernon is now accepting applications for the Vernon RCMP Volunteer Program. Fifteen new candidates will be interviewed and selected by Feb. 28.

The program consists of more than 60 volunteers and delivers services such as foot patrols, speed watch operations, community mobile patrols, special event initiatives and many other services to assist the RCMP with crime prevention.

Interested applicants can contact the Crime Prevention Coordinator Regan Borisenko at 250-550- 7847, or
by email at [email protected]
