Robbery suspect charged

Heron Taylor, 32, has been charged in relation to a recent robbery in Vernon. 

Vernon RCMP responded to a "panic hold up alarm" at a convenience store near 32nd Avenue and Alexis Park Drive. 

"The Vernon RCMP continue to investigate all other robberies that have occurred over the past few weeks and want to thank the public for providing information in relation to those incidents," said Const. Kelly Brett. "It’s great to see the community come together with the police in an effort to make our streets safe." 

"It was the quick thinking and actions of the store owner and passerby that helped police ultimately apprehend our suspect."

Taylor appeared in Vernon Provincial Court on Monday and was charged with attempted robbery, possession of stolen property and disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence.

Taylor’s next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 18.

Police in Vernon arrested a suspect in relation to a string of robberies that occurred in recent days.

A 32-year-old male was arrested at about 3:20 p.m. on Friday. 

Cst. Kelly Brett said Vernon RCMP were called to a "panic hold up alarm" at a convenience store near 32nd Avenue and Alexis Park Drive, where a male tried to rob the store but was unsuccessful.

"Upon police arrival, members found the suspect being held in a vehicle by the store owner," Brett said in a news release.

The suspect remains in custody as police continue to investigate.

The arrest came after police announced they were investigating several robberies that have occurred in the Vernon area since New Year's Eve, which authorities believe may be connected.
