B.C. racer wins 14-day deca

Ultra-athlete Shanda Hill from Vernon Has finished first among females in the two-week long Deca Ultra Triathlon in Leon, Mexico.

Hill finished the race, one of the world's toughest, in 13 days and seven hours.

The event included a 38-kilometre swim, an 1,800-km bike ride and a 422-km run, and featured athletes from around the world.

Even more impressive for Hill, her feat marks the second time in two-and-a-half months that she has completed a deca race.

She completed the Swiss Deca Ultratriathlon Continuous on Aug. 15, a race that took her just over 11.5 days and six hours.

In that event, she had the second-best finish among female participants.

It is believed that Hill has set a world-first for females, by completing two continuous deca races in one calendar year, but that is unconfirmed.

Last October, Hill also finished first among females and fifth overall in the Quintuple Anvil Race in Virginia.
