Campfire ban goes on

Continued dry weather has forced Enderby to keep implementing an open-air burning restriction, which includes campfires.

The announcement comes after nearby communities of Vernon and Armstrong declared that their respective fire bans will go on.

“The wildfire risk remains high, despite the cooler temperatures. This measure will help prevent human-caused wildfires until the hazard level drops," Enderby & District Fire Chief Cliff Vetter said.

Campfire bans were lifted for the Kamloops Fire Centre on Friday.

"While we often follow the Kamloops Fire Centre’s lead... in this case the local conditions merit additional protection," Vetter added.

The burning ban in Enderby also continues to apply to industrial burning, fireworks, tiki torches, sky lanterns and burning barrels.

The city said the ban will remain in place until receiving further notice from fire crews.
