Let's walk, roll, run

Residents of Lumby and area are being urged to take part in the fourth annual Prescription for Health Walk Roll Run on Sept. 24th.

The event is put on by the non-profit Lumby and District Health Services Society and raises much needed funding for the Lumby Health Centre, keeping health services and programs in the community.

“It's extremely important for the community,” said Lyndsay de Jong with the health centre.

Without the centre, de Jong said Lumby residents would have to head into Vernon for x-rays and blood work.

“We have x-rays two days a week and the lab open two days a week and we have to fill our quota. You don't even need an appointment for an x-ray. If you have a doctor's requisition, you can just walk in.”

People wanting to take part in the annual fun run can register online or at the Lumby Health Centre, 2135 Norris Avenue, Lumby.

The event is open to all ages and mobilities. Donations from entrants and pledges from the community are used for health centre operations.

The Walk Roll Run includes:

  • 1km walk-roll by donation only at the Lumby Oval
  • 3 km walk-run follows the scenic Salmon Trail and the streets oLumby. There is a $20 registration fee for all participants 15 years of age & over. Kids 14 and under can participate by donation.
  • 8 km run winds its way along the Lumby Salmon Trail and village. There is a $20 registration fee. Kids 14 & under are welcome to participate by donation.
