It's still dry out there

Vernon Fire Rescue pounced on a small fire that began late Sunday morning in dry grass at the north end of the Kal Tire Place parking lot.

“Some people were walking their dog in the parking lot and saw the grass fire,” said Captain Brent Bond. “They tried to stomp on it to put it out but it was a little too big.”

Bond said firefighters were called out to the 3400 block of 43 Avenue at 11:34 a.m. yesterday and quickly got the grass fire under control.

“It was a quick response. Time is of the essense.”

While the temperature is cooling off in the evening, Bond said it is still “just as dry as it was two weeks ago.”

The RCMP are investigating the cause of the blaze.
