Ready for a challenge

Hannah McRorie was seeking new challenges this summer, and she found them in Vernon.

McRorie, of 249 Beausejour Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron in Beausejour, Man., is completing the six-week Drill and Ceremonial Instructor Course at Vernon Cadet Training Centre.

This may be McRorie's first time at the Vernon camp, but she is hardy new to military training.

McRorie has completed courses at Whitehorse Cadet Training Center, Cold Lake Cadet Training Centre, and Penhold Cadet Training Centre in past summers.

McRorie is not only improving her skills on the parade square here at the training centre but she is also enjoying improving her personal organization, dress, and deportment off the parade square.

McRorie joined cadets four years ago. Her favourite part are the opportunities the program has given her, such as the opportunity to learn new skills and develop as a leader.

Hundreds of cadets will be training at the VCTC, some for two weeks and others for six.

McRorie is part of a long military tradition in Vernon with the first troops training here in 1912. With the onset of the Second World War, the camp was expanded and upgraded in 1940.
