Residents living in the 6800 block of Cameo Drive put out a small fire before it had a chance to become a big fire.
Vernon Fire Rescue Deputy Fire Chief Scott Hemstad said crews were alerted to the grass fire just before 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
“Some of the neighbours noticed there was a small fire,” said Hemstad. “They put it out before we got there. We put some water on it to make sure it was out.”
The fire measured 10-feet-by-10-feet, but given the dry conditions it could have been much worse.
Hemstad praised the residents for their quick actions.
