Campgrounds almost full

Almost all of the campgrounds around Vernon are full for the Canada Day weekend, reports the city's tourism manager.

“Provincial campsites are full, and the private campgrounds around Vernon are close to capacity but we are working with partners to stay on top of what is available and if any additional sites become available for the weekend,” said Angeline Chew of the City of Vernon in an email. “Currently, Vernon accommodations are about 85 per cent full, with most of our motels/hotels at the lower price range sold out.”

Some higher end hotels still have 15 per cent availability but Chew expected those to sell out before the weekend arrives.

“We are expecting a very busy weekend in Vernon with Canada Day celebrations at Polson Park and Canada 150th events all around town at Davison Orchards, the Historic O’Keefe Ranch and more, like the Funtastic (slo pitch tournament and music festival) and BC Mainstage from June 30th to July 8th.”

Kelowna residents are also expected to flock to Vernon for Canada Day fireworks at Kin Beach “since their fireworks celebrations have been postponed till August long weekend,” said Chew.
