Local teen gets galaxy title

A local teen has climbed the pageant ranks to win the title of Miss Teen Galaxy Canada.

Vernon's Samantha Sewell, 18, earned the galaxy title after being crowned Miss Teenage Okanagan earlier this year and also grabbing the national title of Miss Teen Social Media.

She is currently in her final year of high school and is also attending Okanagan College at night school where she is earning her education assistant certificate.

Her latest title has guaranteed her a spot representing Canada at the Miss Teen Galaxy International pageant next year in Orlando, Florida, where she will compete with girls from all over the world.

“It is such an honour to be selected to represent the whole country. My wonderful high school and community has been so supportive on this journey,” says Sewell.

Part of Sewell’s winning strategy is using social media to her advantage to promote her sponsors and the pageant she is representing.

She has also hit the ground running, racking up volunteer hours at more than 50 events in a little over four months – most of which were for various charities in the Okanagan.

This, along with her anti-bullying platform, has all helped to get her noticed by the top pageants in the world.

For the next year, she plans to represent Canada and the Okanagan as Miss Teen Galaxy Canada, and to pursue her goal of becoming a Special Education teacher.

Sewell is planning on attending events throughout Canada in the coming year and will be keeping the world up to date on all the Okanagan and Canada has to offer via her website missteencanadagalaxy.com.
