Teens' first day in court

Two Okanagan teenagers will be back in court next Tuesday after they made their first appearance on second-degree murder charges Wednesday in Vernon.

Brandon Joseph Clayton Wellington, 18, and a second unidentified 14 year old are charged in the homicide of 42-year-old Jason Hardy.

Both accused are residents of the Greater Vernon area.

Hardy's body was discovered in Vernon's Polson Park near the lawn bowling clubhouse on Aug. 26.

RCMP Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy said the two teens were arrested on Monday.

Police say the offence appears to have been targeted, and the public is not at risk. They ask anyone with unreported information on the death to contact the Vernon detachment.

RCMP has said previously that Hardy was known to police.

Both teens remain in custody and are expected back at the Vernon courthouse on Tuesday to consult legal counsel.
