BC Forest Service News Release Issued 7:43 pm
The fire adjacent to Camp McKinney road in Oliver has grown to an estimated 200 hectares. No structures are immediately threatened at this time.
Four air tanker groups and six helicopters provided support for ground resources. The BC Forest Service has 45 fire fighters working the fire, with more arriving tonight and tomorrow morning. The Oliver Fire Department, four water tenders and two pieces of heavy equipment are also working to establish control lines.
Members of the RCMP remain on site, and the Camp McKinney road is still closed at about the seven kilometre mark. An Emergency Operations Centre has been established at the Oliver Fire Department while Emergency Social Services was set up at the Oliver Community Centre.
The situation is being closely monitored and the public will be notified if any significant changes occur. With the high to extreme fire danger throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre, BC Forest Service Officials would like to remind the public to report any smoke or flames to the provincial reporting line, 1-800-663-5555 or 5555 on most cellular phones.
