Heat women bring home provincial silver as does James Casorso of the men's team

PARKSVILLE, BC – Clutch golfing performance by the Heat's James Casorso on the final day leads to an individual provincial silver medal for the four-year member of the UBC Okanagan men's golf team at the Morningstar Golf Club in the final PACWEST tournament of the year.

After a shooting his worst round of the PACWEST season on Saturday in Parksville, BC Casorso rose to the occasion and shot a 66 on the final day to rise four places and seven strokes in the standings to finish the season as the golfer with the second lowest cumulative score at (576). James also carded a (77-66, 143) to finish second in the final tournament of the season at Morningstar, this follows up the tournament win he had last week at Westwood Plateau.

The 66 James finished with on the Sunday was tied for lowest round shot on the men's side for the entire PACWEST season. Finishing first 5-strokes ahead of James was Jacob Vanderpass who golf's for the Langara Falcons.

For James he was placed on the Provincial All-Star team for the second straight season and he will travel to Charlottetown, PEI to compete as an individual at the 2016 PING CCAA national championships held at the Fox Meadow Golf Course and hosted by Holland College. The tournament begins with the national awards banquet on Tuesday, October 18, and the 3-round championship runs Wednesday-Friday (Oct. 19-21).

The men's team finished tied for fourth place overall and did not qualify as a team for the national championship. Jacob Stewart finished (8th) overall in the province.


On the women's side the Heat finished with the provincial silver medal, the Heat women have finished with the provincial gold or silver every year they have been in the league, except one, dating back to 2009/10.

Frehsman golfer McKenna Lesiuk finished fourth overall in the PACWEST and was the only UBCO women golfer to compete in all four tournaments this season. Emily Adams, Jessica Kozak, and Lauren Siemers were the other members of the team and between them they combine to score (1347) trailing the repeat champion UFV by 59 strokes over the four tournaments.
