PREVIEW: Important doubleheader in Prince George this weekend

jbi_1277UBC Okanagan men's soccer team will play their first of two consecutive double-headers this weekend, playing the UNBC Timberwolves in Prince George at 2:15 PM (PST) on Saturday, and 2:15 PM (PST) again on Sunday.

This week for the Heat: This week marks the fifth week of regular season games for the Heat men’s soccer team. Coming off of a lose and a tie, the Heat are looking to improve their play as they continue their season on the road as they travel to Prince George. The first game will be played in Prince George Saturday (Oct. 1) with a 2:15 p.m. start time against the Timberwolves. Followed by a second match on Sunday (Oct. 2) with a start time of 2:15 p.m.

Current Form: Coming off of a tough loss to the University of Alberta (3-1) and a tie to MacEwan (0-0) the Heat are looking to improve their offense as they now stand at a record of (3-3-2) putting them in the third place standings in the Pacific West. The Heat will be looking to maintain their spot in the Pacific West standings as they will travel to Prince George to play the Timberwolves back to back.

Key Players: As the Heat finish their fourth weekend of games, first year Nikhil Reddy is still proving he is prepared take leadership on the field. As a midfielder, Reddy finished the previous weekend with the only goal for the Heat. With this score, Reddy has two goals so far this season and is prepared to be an offensive threat for the Kelowna squad.

Team Stat: With only 7 goals so far this season and 40 attempts on net, the Heat will be looking to up their offensive edge this weekend in Prince George.

Overall Head to Head (W-L-T) vs UNBC (2-3-1): The Heat and the Timberwolves have had a very competitive rivalry since entering the CIS. This will be the second time this year the Kelowna squad will play UNBC and are coming off of a loss (1-0) and a tie (1-1).

Wolves: On Saturday the Heat will play UNBC, the Timberwolves, last in the West standings, are coming off of a loss and a tie. As the Timberwolves regroup at home they will be looking to change their standings as they will defend their home turf Saturday and Sunday (Oct.1 and 2) in Prince George.

Current Form: The Timberwolves are coming off of a tough loss to the University of Calgary (4-0) and a tie to MRU (1-1). With the last weekend of regular season completed the Northern B.C squad is looking to regain momentum and regroup on their home turf.

Key Players: Jonah Smith is taking ownership of field for the Timberwolves. As he was the only player to score for his team this last weekend, Smith has an impressive (.500) shooting percentage and will be looking to help his team win this upcoming weekend. Owen Stewart is also an offensive threat for UNBC, with two goals so far this season, Stewart will be looking to attack for his team.

Team Stat: Prince George is traditionally a tough place to play for opposing teams. This year UNBC is 1-3 at their home park.
