KELOWNA, BC- The golf season for UBC Okanagan has gotten off to an exceptional start. Hosting the first PACWEST tournament of the season was Ledgeview Golf Club, in Abbotsford B.C. The Heat ended the two-day tournament with a silver for the Heat women and fourth for the Heat men.
Jessica Kozak, a local golfer who went to Mount Boucherie Secondary looks ready to lead the team in her third year, Kozak was steady, shooting an 84 in the first day and a 79 in the second day of competition to give her fourth place (84-79, 163).
Emily Adams, out of Ladysmith BC, continues to improve and looks set to add to the Heat wins this season. Adams opened up the tourney with a 79 on Saturday, the second lowest score in the women’s draw. On Sunday Adams was unable to finish, shooting an 86 to finish with fifth place (79-86, 165).
With the Heat women finishing close behind one another the Kelowna squad was able to finish the weekend with an overall score of 328 giving them the second place finish behind the host school, UFV.
For the men, the first tournament brought tough competition as three members of the Heat tied for thirteenth this weekend. Jacob Stewart started the tournament off strong and with a steady hand as he finished Saturday with an impressive 69. This put Casorso tied for second after the first day of competition. Sunday brought new obstacles for the sophomore as he shot an 82 to finish the weekend with (69-82, 151).
Along with Stewart, James Casorso, and Oliver Rizun finished the weekend in the thirteenth place spot shooting a 151 (76-75, 151) for Casorso and a (75-77, 152) for Rizun.
With the close rankings for the Heat members the men's golf team finished the weekend as a whole with 611 points to give them the fourth place standing.
Up next for UBC Okanagan will be PACWEST tournament number two this Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 17-18) at the at the Okanagan Golf club in Kelowna, BC.
