One child ejected from the car during single motor vehicle incident in Trail

Child ejected from car

Three children and a 31-year old Trail mother were involved in a single motor vehicle incident that resulted in one child being ejected.

Just after 7 p.m. on June 1, Trail police responded to report about a 31-year-old Casino woman and her three children involved a single motor vehicle incident in the 2600 block of Casino Road in Trail.

The responding officer located the vehicle to find that all of the occupants were missing. RCMP Police Dog Services conducted a short search of the area after they were not located.

Police later discovered that a third party had driven the woman and her children home after the crash. After locating the woman and children at their home, they learned that one child had been ejected from the vehicle while the other two suffered minor injuries as a result of the incident.

The woman was uninjured. The child who was ejected during the crash is expected to recover, but was hospitalized overnight.

Police said the officer suspected that the woman’s ability to operate a motor vehicle may have been impaired by alcohol. RCMP requested a sample of the driver's breath which resulted in a fail.

The Trail woman was issued a 24-hour Immediate driving prohibition and 90-day administrative driving prohibition (IRP) under the B.C. Motor Vehicle Act.

The Ministry of Children and Families were notified about the incident, and police said that the matter remains under investigation.

"Trail RCMP and B.C. Highway Patrol is committed to investigating motor vehicle crashes and impaired driving to keep our roads safer. Expect to see us out in summer on your local roads and highways," said Trail RCMP Sgt. Wicentowich.
