Armstrong Kin Club raffling off 1976 Corvette Stingray in honour of late member

'76 Corvette could be yours

Glenna Hoggarth was a longtime member of the Armstrong Kin Club, giving back to her community at every opportunity.

When she passed away due to breast cancer in 2019 it left a void in Armstrong that will never be filled. Hoggarth, however, will never be forgotten, especially now that the Glenna Hoggarth Memorial Car Raffle is underway.

Hoggarth’s husband, Kevin, and his family recently purchased a 1976 Corvette Stingray. They decided to donate it to the Armstrong Kin Club and raffle it off to raise money for both breast cancer research and Armstrong Kin Club.

“The family completely restored it back to original—actually, better than original—and the car was appraised with the idea that they wanted the Kin Club to raffle the car off with partial proceeds going to the BC Cancer Foundation,” Armstrong Kin Club past president Jim Martin says. “And we will ultimately put more money back into our own community.”

The Hoggarth family said the car would not be as gorgeous as it is without the generous support of Ron Welch and Jerry Clack, who took care of most of the labour, Nelson's Glass, I&R Transmissions, House of Kolor and OK Tire in Armstrong.

The car's official colour is Kandy Brandywine, and you will be able to feel the brawn of the 350 horsepower engine every time you step on the gas. The engine was previously rebuilt, but it got a fresh camshaft, oil pump, water pump, distributor and rebuilt alternator with new exhaust manifolds and a dual exhaust system. The suspension has been rebuilt with new ball joints, tie-rod ends, steering pump and steering ram. All the bushings in the car suspension and body mounts have been replaced with high performance urethane components.

The interior has been completely refurbished. It has a brand new upholstery kit, carpets, centre console dash pad and headliners. The in-dash stereo is a replica that matches the original style but has an auxiliary port so you can plug in your phone.

All the weather seals are new, as well as all the vacuum hoses and control pots for the pop-up headlights. Exterior window trims have been all polished to a high gloss, and the mirrors, rocker trims and lamps are all new.

The wheels and tires are the only non-stock items, but there are original wheels with new replica centre caps if the winner wishes to pursue collector status insurance.

Tickets went on sale Monday. They are one for $30, three for $75 or five for $100, and can be purchased online here.

Armstrong Kin Club will also be taking the Corvette to approximately 20 car shows this year, beginning on May long weekend. You will not only be able to see the sweet ride up close at the car shows, but you will also be able to purchase your tickets in person after you picture yourself roaring down the highway in your ’76 Stingray.

Armstrong Kin Club is also holding a 50/50 draw in conjunction with the car raffle, and it has the potential to reach as high as $48,000. There will also be an early-bird prize draw of $5,000 on July 14.

The car and 50/50 winners will be drawn on Oct. 13 during the Kin Club’s Armstrong Demolition Derby.
