Spiritleaf in Vernon has gift cards, which are great presents to give at Christmas.

When it comes to Christmas gift-giving, a variety of choices abound at Spiritleaf in Vernon, which has a wide selection of cannabis-related gifts available for giving.

According to owner Sarah Ballantyne, with pandemic restrictions lifted, gatherings such as Christmas and office parties are returning and it’s a busy time of year for her business with the gift-giving season.

“People love (giving gifts) of cannabis-related products at office parties,” she says, noting recent changes by the province to what stores such as hers can offer has resulted in much more variety for the shopping public.

While premium dried flower remains popular, other items like cannabis-infused chocolate and other edibles, as well as beverages and gummies are also gaining popularity. For the holiday season, the store at 102-2500 53 Avenue in Vernon—open every day from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. (9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day)—has put together exclusive holiday gift bags, and carries holiday themed six to 12-pack pre-rolls, dried flower and edibles.

The store also has gift cards, which make great presents and stocking stuffers.

New, higher-dose edibles—which used to be capped at 10 mg but can now be sold in 50 mg to 250 mg doses—are also available and the store carries a full line of higher-dose products.

“With prices down significantly and supply plentiful, there is something for everyone,” she says.

In addition to its physical store, Spititleaf also has a website showcasing its extensive inventory of more than 1,000 products, where customers can order, buy and pay for their purchases and then either pick them up at the store or have them delivered.

Ballantyne says with limitations on what can be displayed in the store, the website is a good alternative to go to for more products.

The store is also proud to feature many locally produced products, sourced through the new direct delivery program that allows cannabis retailers to deal directly with local, provincially-approved growers.

“The pricing is better and the variety and quality are excellent,” she says.

In the 3 1/2 years since the store opened, Ballantyne has not only seen her business grow but also what she is allowed to sell, thus providing a better selection for her customers. She says when she started she was limited to between 250 and 300 products. She now carried more than 1,000 products.

While she has a core customer base, she says she is constantly seeing new people shopping at the store, learning about cannabis products and picking up what they want.

With the ski season now in full swing, she says it is interesting to see the reaction of visitors to Canada who enter the store and see that cannabis retail is a normal part of shopping life in this country.

“That’s not the case in many other places,” she says, adding creating a warm, welcoming shopping experience for all customers is what her store provides.
