Once Upon A Child can get your child dressed for school at affordable prices

Save big on school clothes

Inflation is sending costs soaring, and supply chain issues are limiting what is available in retail outlets.

There’s a good chance back to school shopping has never been more stressful for parents.

Once Upon A Child is a Kelowna resale store that buys and sells gently used kids’ items for newborns to teenagers, not to mention maternity clothing for those expecting.

The store will do what it can to ease that back-to-school anxiety during an event it is launching this Friday (Aug. 19) at its Baron Road location. Hundreds of gently used children’s items, including brand name clothing and shoes, will hit the shelves to prevent the pocketbook pain parents usually feel at this time of year.

“You really can outfit your child for less,” Once Upon A Child owner Ann Davis says.

To prove that point, her employees went around the store to outfit a girl sized 6-7. They were able to find brand-name clothes and two pairs of brand name shoes—Vans and Skechers—for less than $70. They did the same for a boy sized 12-14 and were able to find brand name pants, three shirts, a hoodie and two pairs of shoes for less than $70 as well.

“Our store definitely makes back to school shopping affordable,” Davis says.

Once Upon A Child is all about sustainability as well. Children grow out of new clothes very quickly, so it makes sense to sell them to Once Upon A Child in order for them to stay out of the landfill. It’s a win-win for your bank account and for the globe.

Even if you do not fully outfit your kids for back to school at Once Upon A Child, combining their products with one or two retail purchases can lead to big savings.

“The other beauty of it is the customer can now, with our store, bring in the clothes that their kids have outgrown, sell those to us and use that value to get the next size up,” Davis says.

“You’re getting the double benefit of being able to get value from your items and buy clothes at an economical price and yet use that value towards the next outfits that they need.”

Davis and the team at Once Upon A Child considers quality, gently-used clothing, shoes, toys, baby gear and so much more. Simply bring your freshly laundered items gently folded in a bin, box or tote any day. They consider all seasons, all day, every day. No appointment is necessary, and everything is completed for you that same day. Plus, they pay cash on the spot for everything they would like to buy.

Once Upon A Child and Castanet have teamed up on a contest, where three people will each win $50 gift cards to the store. You can enter that contest here. The contest closes Aug. 31.
