Richmond trucking company expands its workforce and fleet to meet growing demand

There are a number of ways a business can gain attention, and one of the most rewarding is by word of mouth.

And for Richmond-based Sandhar Trucking, it’s helped drive the company’s continued impressive expansion of its trucking fleet, move into new, much larger office headquarters, and put the call out for more staff.

“We required more office space to keep up with the number of staff we need,” says manager Aaron Sandhar, adding the move made in September nearly doubled their office space to 9,000 square feet.

Now they are looking for 10 to 15 hard-working and talented employees to fill the jobs they anticipate will be created as Sandhar Trucking continues to grow.

Driving the growth has been a commitment to a high level of customer service. In turn, this has led to a steady stream of referrals from satisfied clients.

“We like that because it gives us a connection between us, the client who referred them, and the new customer,” Sandhar says. “Referrals provides us with a more solid relationship.

“It’s the way we’ve grown organically since we started 30 years ago,” Sandhar adds. “But it’s really picked up in the last five years.”

Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, customer demand rose significantly.

“We actually got busier,” Sandhar says. “Plus, we like to look at the long-term picture, which shows that container traffic through the Port of Vancouver has always steadily increased.”

To meet that, the company has invested in additional rolling stock.

“In the past few months, we added 10 new trucks and 20 more combo chassis, which allows us to pick up 20 to 53-foot containers,” Sandhar says. “In total, our new investment in is the millions of dollars in trucks and trailers, and is the right thing for us to meet the expected operational demand.

“It will put us in a good position going into 2023.”

So will be the addition of new employees, spread across a number of different departments, including logistics and custom brokerage, which gives Sandhar Trucking the ability to handle shipments all the way through the transportation cycle, including clearing customs.

“We are one of the rare companies that can provide that level of service in-house,” Sandhar explains. “Sometimes, clients are having to deal with as many as four separate companies to get their shipment delivered. We can do it all for them.”
